North Andover MA Community Profile & History
North Andover, Massachusetts is located in Essex County. The town lies along the banks of the Merrimack River and is surrounded by the towns of Methuen, Haverhill, Boxford, Andover, Middleton, North Reading and the City of Lawrence.
Settlers first arrived in 1640, and the town was incorporated as Andover in 1646. The community was split into the North Parish (now North Andover) and the South Parish (now Andover) in 1709; North Andover was incorporated as a separate entity in 1855.
The town has retained a rural character and features over 3,000 acres of preserved open space. Just off of Route 495, a major state highway, the community is easily accessible to New England's major cities as well as the Atlantic Coast of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. North Andover is a thriving community with an excellent school system, efficient services and a strong commitment to its citizens.
